Tutorial Title: How to create scanlines
Program: PSP 5+
Step 1: Open your photo or picture as a new document in PSP. Open a new image with the dimensions 4x4 pixels. Set your foreground color to black and your background color to white. Below you can see the photo which I used for this tutorial. For finding great photos real fast I suggest you use Altavista's photo search engine. Just type in some keywords about the photo you want and click on the photo button above the area in which you just typed in and press search for a huge selection of photos fast!

Step 2: Next, in the document with the dimensions 4x4, use the line tool to draw four lines (two black and two white). Now click Selections > Select All > Save to Alpha Channel. In the dialog window which will next pop up type in "TV Lines" in the Available Documents box. Click OK and next type TV Lines again in the new pop up window and click OK.

Step 3: Now return to the document with your photo. Create a new layer. Click on the Fill Gradient button on you tool bar and in the Control Panel, change the fill style to pattern. Now click Options and in the New Patter Source drop down menu click TV Lines and click OK.

Step 4: Click anywhere on the new layer of your photo to add a group of lines which cover your photo. Now in the Layers Panel, set the blend mode to Overlay and Opacity to about 60. Your done!

Hint! Try to use this technique with other types of patterns, and see what types of effects you can create.
