| Tutorial Title: How to create flaming text |
| Program: PSP 5+ |
Step 1: Open a new image with the dimensions 350x200 pixels, however you can use any size you want. Make your background color white and the foreground color black. |
Step 2: Click on the text button and add your text to the new canvas. Choose a nice bold font. I used Arial bold. If you are using PSP6, convert the text layer to a raster layer. |
|
Step 3: Now select the Freehand Lasso selection tool (the icon right below the marquee selection icon and above the magic wand icon). Set your settings to Antialias and no feathering, and choose freehand if you have the option. Now begin to trace around all the letters. Once you have finished one letter, hold down shift to start tracing around another letter. To trace the center of letters like "a's and o's" hold down CTRL. Do not try to make your selections perfect, the idea is to make the text look broken and sharp.
|
| Step 4: Once you are done tracing around all your text, invert your selection (CTRL + SHIFT + I) and pres the delete key. Now go to Layers > Merge > Merger Visible. You should have had only two layers before your merged layers. |
| Step 5: Now go to Image > Rotate. Set it to Left, 90, and All layers. Now duplicate your only layer and rename it to "Flame red." Now select the magic wand and put your settings to tolerance 10, feathering 0. Now click on any of the white area on the Flame red layer and press the delete key. Now apply 2 motion blurs to the flame red layer. Put the motion blur settings to angle 270 and intesity to 40. With the eraser set to size 100, hardness 0, opacity 24, step 1, density 100; begin to erase slightly along the right side of the flame red layer. Chenge the Brightness/contrast of the layer to brightness 72%, contrast 0%. Colorize the layer with the settings set to hue 8, saturation 255. |
| Step 6: Now click on the first layer (should be named "Merged") and duplicate it, rename it to Flame yellow. With the magic wand slect any of the white area on the flame yellow layer and delete it. Apply the Wind effect once to the layer with settings of strength 20 and direction from the left. Change the brightness contrast with the same settings that were used for the flame red layer. Colorize the flame yellow layer with settings of hue 71 saturation 255. |
| Step 7: Duplicate both flame red and flame yellow layers and set the copies to Burn (layer blend mode). |
| Step 8: To make your text look scorched, select the airbrush tool and set your settings to shape round, size 60, hardness 0, opacity 37, step 25, density 47. Change your foreground color to the RGB code 255, 202, 19. Select the Merged layer and make a new layer named Fire. On the fire layer spray ever so slightly on the right side of the text. Now change the foreground color to RGB code 255, 36, 19 and ever so slightly spray on top of the yellow. Set the layer blend mode of this layer to screen. |
Step 9: Rotate the layer 90 degrees to the right, and you're done!!! ;] Your layer palette should look like this in the end:
