Tutorial Title: How to create 3D wires
Program: PSP 5+
Step 1: Open a new image with the dimensions 100x100 pixels, however you can use any size you want. Make the background of the canvas white. Make your background color light gray and the foreground color dark gray. Now zoom in on the canvas a little and create a new layer.
Step 2: Click on the marquee selection tool and set it to rectangle, zero feathering and no antialiasing. Draw out a rectangle about 15 pixels wide and 6 pixels high.
Step 3: Now select the fill tool and set it to linear gradient and click somewhere inside the selection. Press CTRL + C to copy the selection and press CTRL + E to paste it. With the selection still selected press CTRL + I to flip it. Now line it up with the first gradient to create a double gradient.
Step 4: Now create another new layer. On the new layer draw a black line that is 12 pixels high, one pixel thick and not antialiased. Draw another line just like the black line but make this one white and put it right next to the black line. Move both lines over on top of the gradient.
Step 5: Turn off the background layer and Merge only what is visible. Now the two lines and the gradient should become one layer. Draw a selection over a small piece of the gradient and both of the lines, press CTRL + C and CTRL + E and move the floating selection right next to where the first two lines end. Now draw a selection includes a piece of the gradient and BOTH sets of lines and copy and paste these. Repeat until you have a long segment which will be your wire when you zoom out. NOTE! If you are using version 6 of Paint Shop Pro, step three is easier for you. Instead of making your selection 6 pixels high, make it 12. Now make your Foreground color dark gray and your background color light gray and choose the gradient that is dark on both the top and bottom.
