| Tutorial Title: Smooth Sunbursts in PSP 7 |
| Program: PSP 7+ |
Step 1: First, open up PSP and create a new image. You want to have a decent sized canvas because we will be resizing the image at the end. I used 500x500 pixels. Make your background color white. Once the new canvas has been created, select the Flood tool. Next go to the Color palette (fig. 1). In the styles area hold down the small arrow in the foreground color selection and then pick gradient from the pop up.

Step 2: A gradient preview will appear in the color palette. Click the small preview to open the dialog below. The gradient you have might be different than the one in the screenshot, but that does not matter. Click on the edit button under the preview.
Step 3: The Gradient Editor dialog will open now. From this window, you define all the settings for your gradient as well as edit existing gradients. Click the new button to create a new gradient. To create the sunburst bands you need to make a range of alternating colors. In the gradient section of the editor, Make one black color notch at the bottom and then in the location type 0. Make one white color notch and make its location 10, then one black at 20 and another white at 30 and so on. Click on the first diamond on the top of the bar and type in 10 for its location. 20 for the second, 30 for the third and so on. After you do all of the notches and diamonds, you should have a gradient that looks like the one in the screenshot below. If you do not want to create the gradient at this moment, you can download mine at the bottom of this tutorial.
Step 4: When you have finished editing the gradient, click on the OK button to accept the gradient and to return to the main gradient dialog. For style select the radial button. Type 100 for both horizontal and vertical. Click OK.
Step 5: Now with the Flood tool still selected, click anywhere in your canvas to create the sunburst. You will notice that the edges are very pixelated. To fix this, we must resize the image or layer. Go to Image>Resize. Use the settings below and press OK.
END: And there you have it. You could still make sunbursts the old way (look for the other tutorial on the main tutorial page). But this method produces a nicer effect.
