Tutorial Title: How to create grungy text (Dissolved text)
Program: PS 5+
Step 1: Open a new image with any dimensions you want. Make your background color black (this effect looks best when used against a dark background color) and the foreground color a shade of dark orange or mustard.
Step 2: Make a new layer, and add your text to the layer. Center your text. This effect works best with slightly bold fonts. I used Arial Black in my example. Make the font pretty big. Be sure to rasterize your text if you are using Photoshop 6 or above.
Step 3: Now go to the Filter menu and select Gaussian Blur. Enter any amount you desire, just don't make it too much. Try 3.0, the higher the amount of blur you apply, the more dissolved the text will become.
Step 4: From the layer mode menu, select Dissolve. The effect should be produced immediantly. Below you can see my results when using different amounts of blur.
